Bars and Clubs of Njivice

Njivice is a small seaside resort on the north coast of Krk Island, in Croatia, and its bars and clubs form a modest but pleasant evening scene along the waterfront. The resort is quieter than the larger party destinations on the Adriatic, and its nightlife reflects this: a few beach bars and cafés, music at moderate volume and a relaxed crowd, with a focus on sunsets and conversation rather than all-night dancing.

The setting shapes the experience. Njivice lies in a sheltered bay facing the Kvarner Gulf and the mountains of the mainland, and its main promenade follows the water, passing the harbour, the marina and a series of pebble beaches. In the evening the air cools, the lamps along the promenade come on and people stroll between the cafés and the harbour, with families, couples and groups of friends sharing the space. Krk is the largest of the Croatian islands in the northern Adriatic and is connected to the mainland by a road bridge, which has made it easy to reach and popular with visitors from Central Europe, and Njivice’s style is that of a typical family resort of the island, built on small fields, from which it takes its name, njive meaning fields.

One of the best-known venues is Punto Mare Beach Bar, which stands right on the shoreline. It is a cosy place where guests can sit with their feet almost in the sand and sip a cocktail, a beer or a glass of local wine while the waves lap at the shore, and it is especially popular around sunset. The service is described as friendly, the prices are reasonable by the standards of the coast and the views over the water are a large part of the appeal. The atmosphere is mixed, with couples, families and solo travellers all finding a place, and the crowd is generally relaxed rather than rowdy.

While Punto Mare is the best known, beyond this bar, other cafés and beachside terraces offer similar options. Late-night clubs are limited, and visitors who want a more energetic scene can find larger venues in the bigger towns of the island or on the mainland, but for a calm evening with a view, Njivice is well suited. Most places are within easy walking distance of the harbour and the town centre, so it is easy to move between them, and the waterfront is safe and well lit.

The evening scene suits couples, families with older children and anyone who prefers a drink by the sea to a loud club. Opening times and programmes change by season, with the busiest period in July and August, and many places close or reduce hours in the off-season. Bring a light jacket for the evenings, and take care on uneven paving.
