Galerija Antuna Augustinčića

Galerija Antuna Augustinčića in Klanjec is a remarkable destination for art lovers and anyone interested in Croatian cultural heritage. Established in 1970, the gallery was founded after the renowned sculptor Antun Augustinčić (1900–1979) donated a significant collection of his works to his hometown. The building, designed by architect Ante Lozica, opened to the public in 1976 and now houses a permanent exhibition that spans Augustinčić’s prolific five-decade career.

Inside, visitors encounter a thoughtfully curated selection of sculptures, ranging from intimate nudes and portraits to monumental public works. Augustinčić, who studied under Rodin in Paris, is celebrated for his expressive portrayal of the human form, often focusing on torsos rather than traditional portraits. Notable highlights include a full-sized model of his famous Peace Monument and a life-size bronze statue of Marshall Tito. The gallery also features an outdoor sculpture park, allowing guests to enjoy both art and the tranquil surroundings of Klanjec.

The gallery is praised for its serene setting, informative presentations by the curator, and its role as a key site for Croatian contemporary art. Admission is 20 HRK for adults and 10 HRK for children, students, and pensioners. Opening hours are Monday from 9:00 to 17:00, and Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 15:00 and 9:00 to 17:00.
