Zakrjan Tower (Zakerjan Tower)

Zakrjan Tower, also known as Berim Tower, is a striking medieval landmark on the north side of Korčula Town, offering visitors a blend of history, architecture, and contemporary leisure. Built between 1481 and 1483 during the Venetian rule of Doge Giovanni Mocenigo, the tower stands out for its distinctive half-cylinder shape and classic crenellations, which evoke the fortified character of the era. Local stonemason Marko Andrijic crafted the tower, and his skill is evident in the structure’s enduring presence.

On the north side of Zakrjan Tower, you’ll spot the Venetian coat of arms belonging to Governor Viaro and Doge Mocenigo, while the south side displays the Tiepolo Coat of Arms—reminders of Korčula’s historical ties to Venice. The tower is part of the old city’s defensive walls, making it an essential stop for those interested in the island’s layered past.

Today, Zakrjan Tower is also home to the popular Massimo Bar, where visitors can climb to the terrace and enjoy panoramic views over the Adriatic Sea.
