Beach of Zrce

Beach of Zrće lies on the island of Pag in the northern Adriatic, a few kilometres from the town of Novalja, and it is one of the busiest summer destinations on the island.

Zrće is the best-known party beach in the Croatian archipelago, and in summer it behaves more like a festival site than a quiet seaside strand. A long curve of pale pebbles and sand, about two and a half kilometres in length, lines a sheltered bay, with warm, clear water and a gentle entry that makes swimming easy. Behind the beach, in a strip along the shore, stand large open-air clubs, bars and restaurants, many of them built to receive thousands of people at once. From June to September, the place is a magnet for visitors from across Europe, especially young people, who come for the music, the sun and the social atmosphere.

The beach itself is free to enter, and the activities on offer are many. Sunbeds, umbrellas and small cabanas can be rented, bars serve drinks and snacks at the water’s edge, and a range of water sports is available, including jet skiing, wakeboarding, banana boats and paddleboarding. In the afternoon, DJs begin to play, and the beach fills with groups of friends dancing in the shallows. The area is known for its lively, energetic mood, and visitors who expect a tranquil swim may find it overwhelming at peak times.

The nightlife is a major draw. Several clubs host international DJs, and big festivals bring thousands of fans for several days of continuous music, with dance floors facing the sea. The venues typically operate from late afternoon into the early morning, and they offer a variety of styles, from house and techno to pop and hip-hop. Entry arrangements, ticket prices and line-ups change every season, so it is worth checking the programmes in advance, and booking accommodation early, because rooms in Novalja fill quickly.

For those who prefer a calmer experience, the rest of Pag offers quiet coves, lunar landscapes and ancient sites, such as the Roman Aqueduct in Novalja and the Life on Mars Trail, and it is easy to combine a day at Zrće with other outings. Looking after yourself matters in a party setting: use sun protection, drink water, keep watch over belongings and treat the place and its neighbours with respect. The beach suits young people, groups of friends and music lovers, and families with children tend to prefer daytime visits, before the clubs fill up.
