Croatian Natural History Museum

Located in the historic Upper Town of Zagreb, the Croatian Natural History Museum resides in the Amadeo Palace, a building with a rich cultural past as the site of Croatia’s first public theater from 1797 to 1834. After a comprehensive three-year renovation, the museum has reopened its doors, offering visitors a modernized space that seamlessly blends scientific inquiry with historical architecture. The institution is dedicated to preserving and interpreting natural heritage through five professional departments: Botanical, Geological-Paleontological, Mineralogical-Petrographic, Zoological, and Conservation.

Visitors are greeted by a vast collection comprising over two million specimens. The newly renovated permanent exhibition utilizes interactive and multimedia displays to explore mineralogy, geology, paleontology, paleoanthropology, zoology, and botany, making the diversity of the living and non-living world accessible to all generations. For planning purposes, admission costs 15 EUR for adults and 8 EUR for concessions. The museum operates Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 19:00, and Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00. It remains closed on Mondays, public holidays, and specifically on August 5 and 15. Travelers should note that special events, such as the "AMADEO" exhibition or summer workshops for children, may influence visiting hours or offer free admission on select dates.
