Grof’s educational trail in Papuk Nature Park is a scenic and enriching route that invites visitors to discover the natural and cultural treasures of Croatia’s first geopark. Nestled in the picturesque Jankovac Forest Park, about 14 kilometers from Velika, this 2.3-kilometer trail winds through lush beech and oak woods, past tranquil lakes, and alongside the impressive Skakavac waterfall. Named after Count Joseph pl. Janković, who recognized the area’s beauty and helped preserve it, the trail is thoughtfully designed with stairs, wooden bridges, and handrails, making it accessible and enjoyable for hikers of all ages.

Along the way, instructive boards provide fascinating insights into the park’s geology, flora, fauna, and history, transforming your walk into an engaging outdoor classroom. Grof’s educational trail has been recognized for its originality and visitor experience, winning the Croatian National Tourist Board’s Green Flower Award in 2006. The area is also home to the geological Rupnica trail, where you can see unique volcanic formations and ancient marine fossils, further emphasizing Papuk’s rich geological heritage.
