Lokve

Lokve’s history is closely tied to the forests and mountains of Gorski Kotar, a region long known as the 'green lungs' of Croatia. The village developed as a center for forestry, agriculture and trade, and its residents have lived in step with the surrounding woods for generations. Timber was cut and floated, charcoal was burned, and small farms grew potatoes and kept livestock on clearings. Over time Lokve has preserved its traditional character, with wooden chalets, quiet lanes and a strong sense of community.
