Štrigova

Štrigova’s history stretches back to medieval times, when it developed as a religious and cultural center in Međimurje. The village is home to two remarkable Baroque churches: the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, with its ornate interior and impressive frescoes, and the Church of St. Jerome, a pilgrimage site known for its spiritual significance and panoramic views. Local tradition holds that the early Church father Jerome was born in Stridon, a town that some scholars place near Štrigova, and this belief gives the village a special place among pilgrims. Cultural life in Štrigova is lively, with local festivals, concerts and community events celebrating Međimurje’s folk traditions, music and crafts. Artisans and producers offer handmade souvenirs, regional wines and delicacies, which makes Štrigova a good place to discover the flavors and customs of northern Croatia. Because the village lies close to the border, visitors will sometimes hear Slovenian and Hungarian as well as the local kajkavian dialect.
