Burnjak Dam and Retention Basin

The Burnjak Dam and Retention Basin in Gornja Stubica stands as a notable example of modern engineering set within the rolling hills of the Krapina-Zagorje region. Built to regulate the Burnjak stream—a tributary of the Toplica river—the dam plays a crucial role in flood defense for the Stubičke area. With a retention volume of 1,800,000 cubic meters, a height of 20.5 meters, and a crown length of 80 meters, it is one of the largest retention structures in Croatia. The basin itself covers an area of about 15 square kilometers, and its construction involved significant use of stone, clay, concrete, and iron reinforcement.
