Oršić Castle and Museum of the Peasants' Revolt

Oršić Castle in Gornja Stubica is a striking baroque landmark that offers visitors a unique window into Croatia’s history. Built in 1756 by Count Krsto Oršić and his wife Josipa on the site of an earlier medieval fortress, the castle features an L-shaped ground plan and a classicist colonnade added in the 19th century. Today, Oršić Castle houses the Museum of the Peasants’ Revolt, established to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the 1573 Peasants’ Revolt, a pivotal event in Croatian history. The castle is set within a peaceful park, where you’ll find a dramatic monument to the revolt and its leader, Matija Gubec, sculpted by Antun Augustinčić. The museum is open daily, with hours typically from 9:00 to 17:00 (extended to 19:00 on some days), and admission is 20 HRK for adults and 10 HRK for children, students, and pensioners.
