Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary

The Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary, set on the small island of St. Mary within Mljet National Park, is one of the Adriatic’s oldest and most evocative church complexes. Founded in 1151 by Benedictine monks from Puglia, Italy, the monastery is a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture, later expanded with Renaissance elements during the 15th and 16th centuries.
